Hello Guys, most welcome.
Today's topic :-
Does Mt. Everest deserve the name "Mount Everest"???
Today I am going to tell you about the world famous Mount Everest and the person who measured it first.
Let's begin.
# To clear up all your doubts , I'll tell you first, how Mt. Everest gets its name and who first measured it.
When the world didn't know about the Everest (before 1856), Kanchenjunga or K2 was considered as the highest mountain on the Earth.
It was the time period about the year 1850 when Bharat was suffering the cruel rule of British and the Indians were in the control of English men.
During that time George Everest , a British Geographer was the Surveyor General of India of the time period : 1830 to 1856.
He was in the search of a person who have mastered Spherical Trigonometry so that the person could take part in the Great Trigonometric Survey of measuring the highest mountain.

Someone had suggested him the name Radhanath Sikdar who could help him.

Sir Radhanath Sikdar |
Sir Radhanath Sikdar was a great mathematician born in West Bengal and was expert in Spherical Trigonometry.
Sikdar started working with George Everest unknown from the fact that he would be injusticed later for his great achievement.
">He was the first person who claimed that there is an another mountain which is higher than the K2 and the surveyors called it as Peak XV.Sikdar started working with George Everest unknown from the fact that he would be injusticed later for his great achievement.
The Peak XV was the highest ,so surveyors began to measure it.
Before going forward, I want to tell you the difference between a mountain and a peak.
A mountain is a complete land form whereas a peak is the highest point of a mountain.
So, Sikdar started measuring it and in March 1856 , his measurements get officialy announced which was 29000 ft (8839.2m).
But as this result seems to be estimated , George Everest adds extra 2 feet and put his before the world ,i.e, 29002ft.
As at that time Hidustan was in the control of British, the honour of measuring Everest first time passed to George Everest and that's why peak XV was renamed as "Mount Everest" .
Also, Sikdar didn't get married and that's why no one left in his family after his death who can claim for Sikdar.
Now, we have to play the role of his family members and we, the public can raise voice for Sikdar (but in a peaceful way).
We can give back to Sir Sikdar his achievements by renaming the Mount Everest as "Mount Sikdar" with the help of UNESCO.
UNITY can do anything.
But we have to come forward.
Please share this post with your friends and relatives, not for me , for Great Sikdar, for his achievement, and for India.
Jai Hind
Vande Mataram.
